The title is quite an oxymoron, isn't it? Diabetes having a "sweet" solution? Well, that is, in fact, the source of most of the questions related to the homoeopathic approach to diabetes.
So, let’s look into how we homoeopaths help manage your sugar levels.
Before we jump into how homoeopathic medication can help you, it is important to know that regular exercise, keeping stress in check and consuming a balanced diet, not only act as catalysts but also are vital in keeping your blood sugar levels in check sustainably.
Food
Maintaining a healthy balanced low-calorie diet always helps. Here are few pointers you can keep in mind.
· Both sugary and starchy carbohydrates can increase blood sugar levels, hence must be taken in moderation depending on your level of sugars.
· Green leafy vegetables like broccoli, spinach, kale, etc., can benefit as they are high in antioxidants.
· Switching to whole grains, like brown rice, whole grain bread, quiona, millets, etc., is healthy choice.
· Beans like the kidney beans are an excellent option as well.
· Nuts, like walnuts contain fatty acids, that keep the heart healthy.
Physical and Mental well-being Exercises like brisk walking, running, swimming, cycling can be incorporated in your daily routine that will help keep weight in check. Activities like yoga, meditation or following a certain hobby that boosts your mood can also be added to keep your stress levels in check.
Role of Homoeopathy

Along with all the above, depending on the severity of the diabetes, medication will be needed. Homoeopathy provides a complementary approach to management of diabetes. We consider the unique symptoms, characteristics and imbalances to promote overall well-being of the person. We ask you questions about your lifestyle, diet, family history, your stress levels and other possible factors that may have spiked your sugar levels and then form a whole picture and treat you based on that, which makes Homoeopathy an effectual treatment as it follows a holistic approach. Thus, no two people will get the same medicine though they are both suffering with diabetes. Along with that, no side effects, is always a bonus of course.
We in homoeopathy usually give medicines in the form of medicated pills (depends on your physician) that are slightly sweet (thus a favourite amongst children) and that is where most of them place their fears.
I’ve had at least one in every five diabetic patients ask me, 'Won't the sweet medicated pills we prescribe, increase the sugar levels rather than keeping it in check?' Not only have we cleared their doubts with explanation and results, but also thank them for voicing their fears as that is what lets us know that this is a topic that has to be thrown light upon so that it helps others with the same kind of questions.
When we dispense our medicines, we use ‘globules’ - in other words, the pills, that are made of sucrose, as the vehicle; we add medicine in the pills and give them to you. Now, to break it down with factual calculations, even a patient with severe diabetes, is allowed a teaspoon of sugar per day. A teaspoon of sugar contains around 4.2 grams of sucrose. In the case of the homoeopathy pills that we administer, we ask patients to take 3-5 pills (depending on the size) and this contains around 1 gram of sucrose.
Thus, the homoeopathic pills, contain way less amount of sugar than the per day allowance even in a case of severe diabetes, thus, rendering it safe even for patients with very high sugar levels.
To make it simpler, the amount of sucrose in the pills we give you for a month, is almost equal to one-fourth a bread. Thus, it is equal to consuming one-fourth a piece of bread for a month, which is definitely safe.
Hence homoeopathic medicines, though sweet, are very safe and effective in consuming in order to keep your sugar levels in control.
I hope with this article I have cleared your doubts and conveyed to you how homoeopathy can help keep your diabetes in control and achieve your best state of health. Here’s wishing all those (or your loved ones) having the sugars, a sweet and a holistic healing.
